The judicial commission that probed the tragic chimney collapse incident in Vedanta-controlled Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (Balco) is likely to submit its report in next few days.
The incident took place in September 2009 when an under-construction chimney at Balco’s power plant in Korba crashed killing 41 labourers. Sepco, a Chinese company, had bagged the award for the 1200-Mw power plant, while GDCL was constructing the 275-metre chimney.
The state government had instituted a judicial inquiry into the incident. The one-member commission headed by Sandeep Bakshi started the probe. It almost took three years to complete the proceedings.
