Karnataka CM promises separate fund for farmers

| Speaking to reporters at the Hubli airport on Monday, the CM said that he had asked the deputy commissioners and agriculture officers in all the districts to submit a report on the damage sustained by farmers due to the calamities during the last three years. The report is expected in a fortnight and further action would be taken. |
| Kumaraswamy, who visited Halakatti village in Savadatti taluk of Belgaum district where a fire accident had caused huge losses, said that the government had released Rs 13 lakh to the victims and another Rs 15 lakh from the chief minister's relief fund will be released soon. |
| The chief minister reiterated that the government was committed to safeguarding the interests of North Karnataka and will take steps to implement the recommendations of the Nanjundappa Committee on correcting regional imbalance. He informed that he had appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene in the Kalasa Banduri Nallah project issue and convince the Goa government into withdrawing its objection to the implementation of the project. |
| "The response from the PM has been encouraging," he asserted. Kumaraswamy said that he had called a meeting of farmer leaders and others involved in the agitation for the implementation Kalasa Banduri nallah project on March 2 to discuss the issue in detail. |
