There is a need for efficient management of fuel supply to the coal-based power stations in the country, said PK Jena, secretary, energy of the Orissa government.
Jena also pointed out that power generating companies should go for renewable energy sources to meet the prevailing power deficit in the state.
He was speaking at a regional meeting of the power generating companies in the eastern region of the country including Orissa and North-East, organised by the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC).
Speaking on the occasion, IJ Kapoor, director (commercial) of NTPC said, “NTPC is committed to generate 50,000 MW of power by 2012 and 75,000 MW by 2020. Adequate coal supply to the NTPC power stations across the country holds the key for uninterrupted power generation for the entire country.”
The main objective of the seminar was to share the experience of the power generating companies on a common platform and devise a consensus on the issue.
The theme of the seminar was Fuel Security for Thermal Power Stations and Risk Management in Hydro Power Projects.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were CJ Venugopal, chairman and managing director of Grid Corporation of Orissa Limited (Gridco) , Vishwaroop, regional executive director (east) of NTPC Limited and Lalan Prasad, Executive Director, NTPC Kaniha.
