Union minister for civil aviation Praful Patel has inaugurated the tele-health project at KLE's Hospital and medical research centre here. The state-of-the-art rural tele-health project has been implemented through BSNL's Broadband VSAT network.

The minister interacted with the doctors at Gokak Hospital, Belgaum Ayurveda Hospital and Kinaye (Khanapur) primary health centre where the facility has been installed.

Patel said that it was Rajiv Gandhi who had placed the seed of telecommunication in India two decades ago.

"This has grown rapidly and is helping a large number of people," he said.

Patel congratulated the KLE Society for adopting innovations and running over 160 institutions.

Presiding over the function, KLE Society chairman Prabhakar Kore appealed to Patel to upgrade Belgaum airport to facilitate growth of health tourism in the northern parts of the state.
