The Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Hyderabad, will be organising a 12-day business orientation programme in the city from November 8, wherein 10 industry experts from various industries will visit the institute campus and interact with its students.

The programme is designed with the objective of helping students understand and appreciate the ‘big picture’ of business in sectors like insurance, manufacturing, infrastructure, banking and automobile, and enable them to evaluate the diverse career opportunities that these sectors would offer.

“India has more than 1,250 management institutions providing undergraduate and postgraduate-level courses. Nearly 400,000 management graduates pass out of these institutions each year with their employability being just around 25 per cent. Many are jobless. That is because most of these passing out management students are not industry-ready,” V Panduranga Rao, director, IMT, said in a release on Monday.

Since the management students produced by these institutions are primarily absorbed by industry, there is a growing need to match the curriculum and structure of management education to better fit the needs of Industry and make it sensitive to the changes in both, the manufacturing as well as the services sectors, he added.

These experts include Madhu Kannan, managing director and chief executive of the Bombay Stock Exchange, RVS Ramakrishna, managing director of ITW Signode, VB Gadgil, managing director of L&T-Hyderabad Metro Rail, Abheek Barua, chief economist at HDFC Bank, Sashi Krishnan, chief information officer of Bajaj Allianz, and Manohar Bhat, commercial business head (south), Maruti Suzuki.
