Banking, autos lead upmove

The Sensex is up 123 points at 17,678. The Nifty is up 29 points at 5,282.

The Sensex is now at 17,665, up 110 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,278, up 27 points.

Among the Sensex-30 pack stocks, HDFC Bank has advanced 4% to Rs 1,761 and Hero Honda has added 3.5% at Rs 1,679, respectively.

HDFC, Maruti and ICICI Bank were up 2% each at Rs 2,578, Rs 1,180 and Rs 859, respectively.

Tata Motors has slipped 2% to Rs 633. Grasim Industries and Sterlite  have declined 1% each at Rs 2,805 and Rs 865, respectively.

The market breadth remains positive, out of 2,880 shares traded, 1,754 have advanced and 1,038 have declined so far on th BSE.

Among the sectoral indices, bankex and the auto indices are up 2% each while the metal index and the realty index are down 0.5% each.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS

Engineers India has topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 113.54 crore. It is followed by Hindustan Copper (Rs 104.56 crore), STC (Rs 89.23 crore), NMDC (Rs 82.02 crore) and Dredging Corporation (Rs 80.45 crore).

Cals Refineries has led the volume chart with trades of 18.78 million shares. It is followed by FCS Software (9.32 million), Sanraa Media (4.83 million), Ispat Industries (3.16 million) and Suzlon (2.01 million).
