The United States has estimated that India would import about 1 million tonne of wheat for the first time in six years because of low stocks, minister of state for commerce and industry EVKS Elangovan said on Wednesday.
 
"The food and agricultural services of US department of agriculture in its monthly circular of July 2005 titled 'Grains: World markets & trade' has stated that India is expected to import about one million tonne of wheat for the first time in six years because of lower-carry-in stocks and rising consumption," he said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha here.
 
He said 4.09 million tonne of wheat was exported during 2003-04 while 770,764 tonne of basmati rice and 2.6 million tonne of non-basmati rice was exported in the same year.
 
Rubber: To another question, he said India produced 749,665 tonne of rubber in 2004-05 against a consumption of755,405 million tonne.
 
Soya oil: Elangovan said after falling 81 per cent in 2003-04, soya oil exports improved almost two folds to 7,505 tonne in 2004-05. Soya oil export of 3,378 tonne in 2002-03 got Rs 40.05 crore in value while export of 2,550 tonne in2003-04 got Rs 14.41 crore.In 2004-05, Rs 33.48 crore was earned from export of 7,506 tonne of soya oil.
 
Auto: To a separate question, he said global auto-component market would grow to $1.7 trillion by 2015.Out of this market, $1 trillion would be made in the major automotive countries like the US, EU and Japan.
 
"India has the potential of bagging upto $20-25 billion business in global outsourcing," he said.
