The 16th meeting of the Indo-German working group on coal is scheduled to be held on November 25 where a bilateral agreement would be signed, A Jung of the federal ministry of economics and labour, Germany, said at the International Mining and Machinery exhibition (IMME 2004) here today.

The bilateral agreement would encourage cooperation between the two countries on crucial issues like good practice in mining partnership, project information, public loans, trades and tariffs for mining equipment and so on.

There would also be discussions on possible joint ventures (JV) or funding for certain large proposed opencast projects like Magadh, Amrapali and Chupervita, he said.

Germany's policy on investing in the Indian mining sector was to provide all necessary support but only at the discretion of private sector investors.

The German mining machinery industry comprised 120 small and medium sized companies.

It was difficult for some private companies to invest in the Indian mining sector owing to lack of adequate resources, said P Jochums, president, mining machinery division within German Engineering Federation (VDMA).

The export German mining machinery was around euro 10 million in 2003. Exporters expected growth of around 30 per cent in 2004, said Jung.

Asian market sales of German mining machinery had risen 300 per cent and at present, sales of German construction equipment and building material machinery industry was euro 7.7 billion.

"The major reason behind participating in IMME 2004 was improving the strong relation between India and Germany in mining equipment sector. German units want to offer the latest technology and equipment to Indian companies in the mining industry", he added.

IMME 2004 has 11 German companies like DBT Mining Engineers GmbH, Humbolt Wedag India, Liebherr - Export AG as participants.
