| Sowing was done on 54 per cent of land after the rainfall in the first week of July. With no rain till the third week of July, the area under sowing began showing signs of moisture stress. But the situation has improved with subsequent spells of rain. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
There has been scanty to heavy rainfall in the remaining of 15-20 per cent area under cultivation in the third week of July, after which sowing was done on 10 to 15 per cent area.

| In Madhya Pradesh, the estimated area under soybean cultivation is expected to be only 90 per cent compared to last year. And there hasn't been any shift to any other kharif crop in the unsown area. The earlier sown crop has been damaged due to continuous rains in Sagar and Rewa districts of Madhya Pradesh. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In Maharashtra, however, the area under cultivation is likely to have risen by 7 per cent. With rains arriving later than usual, sowing was delayed. The sowing was estimated to cover 43 per cent by the end of June, and the remaining 49 per cent by the end of third week of July.
