At least 16 people were killed and 22 others injured after a bus fell into a deep gorge near Dania in Uttarakhand's Almora district on Saturday.
The bus was on its way from Munsyari in Pithoragarh district to Delhi.
The search and rescue operations were immediately launched by the local police and administration.
The seriously injured were rushed to the nearest Primary Health Centre at Dhauladevi.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs. one lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 each for the seriously injured passengers.
A magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the incident.
