Accusing AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi of promoting terrorism, senior advocate and social activist Abha Singh on Sunday launched a tirade against the former for his decision to provide legal help to men arrested for allegedly being members of an ISIS module.
Singh told ANI that Owaisi is playing vote bank politics and is making such comments to lure a particular community.
"One doesn't expect such statement from Owaisi who himself is a sitting MP. There is a provision in every government that will provide legal aid if a person doesn't have a lawyer, even Kasab was provided a lawyer by the government," said Singh.
"This is only being done by Mr Owaisi to give the message that he is trying to protect a particular community. This is basically and primarily votes bank politics. Rather than assisting the judicial system, it is shameful he is trying to promote terrorism by making such statements," she added.
The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief had on Friday announced that his party would provide legal aid to five IS suspects arrested from Hyderabad earlier this week.
Backing his party's decision, Owaisi said that the legal system would have anyways offered legal help to the accused and urged the media not to blow the issue out of proportion and be a hindrance in the legal process.
According to reports, Owaisi had earlier decided to support the accused after the family members of the five youth met him and claimed that they are innocent.
