BJP slams Khurshid for calling Modi 'impotent', says Congress 'frustrated'

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticized External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid for calling its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi "impotent".

"What Salman Khurshid has said is condemnable. Such language is only used when people are staring at defeat," BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said.

"Those who abuse are downgraded in public mind, not the person whom they are abusing. The way Salman Khurshid is speaking, its shows their (Congress) frustration," he added.

Echoing similar sentiment, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said: "Congress is forgetting tehzeeb, tameez (decency, manners).

"Rahul Gandhi should answer. Is this what he advised his party men?" asked Hussain.

Khurshid's fresh salvo against the BJP prime ministerial candidate at a rally in Farrukhabad came as he raised questions on the Gujarat Chief Minister's handling of the post-Godhra riots in 2002. .

Without taking the name of Modi, Khurshid asked why a man who aspires to be the prime minister of the country could not do anything during the 2002 riots.

"Some people came, attacked and went, and you couldn't protect. Are you not a strong man?," he asked.

"We don't accuse you of killing people... Hamara aarop hai ki tum 'napunsak'(impotent) ho. (Our accusation is that you are impotent). You couldn't stop the killers," he added.
