Cook rules out possibility of resigning from captaincy despite England's humiliating defeat at Lord's

Alastair Cook has vowed to stay on England captain, ruling out any possibility of resigning after the hosts suffered a humiliating defeat to India in the second Test at Lord's on Monday.

Cook said that he is trying his heart out and is here as long as the team wants him, despite facing batting problems himself.

England has now suffered seven defeats in nine matches under Cook's captaincy, The Guardian reported.

Cook said that he has got inner steel which he has got to keep drawing on, adding that firstly he has to got to start scoring runs. He said that it is a team game; he is fronting up and thinks that the lads in the dressing room will as well.

The selectors will reportedly meet on Tuesday to consider what changes to make to the England squad before the third Test, which will start in Southampton next Tuesday.

England's wicketkeeper Matt Prior reportedly looks vulnerable following a bad dismissal that sparked the hosts collapse to defeat post lunch. However, the skipper said that the decision would be left to the wicketkeeper, who has been struggling with Achilles, thigh and hand injuries this summer.

Cook said that it is all up to Prior, adding that if the wicketkeeper wants to keep playing there is still a place for him, because he feels that he is still the best keeper-batsman in the country.
