Farah's 'hero' Gebrselassie advises Brit sprinter not to rush into 'marathon dreams' yet

Veteran Ethiopian long-distance runner Haile Gebrselassie has reportedly questioned British sprinting star Mo Farah's decision to switch from the track to the road with his debut marathon run, and advised him not to rush into his 'marathon dreams'.

Farah will make his marathon debut in the Bupa Great North Run, aiming to become the first British male winner since Steve Kenyon in 1985, and will compete against his idol Gebrselassie and Kenenisa Bekele in the marathon.

According to the Mirror, one of the greatest-ever marathon runners, Gebrselassie has however, warned Farah not to focus completely on road running just yet, saying that it is too early for him.

Stating that Farah is fantastic over 5,000m, 10,000m and even 1500m, the two-time Olympic champion also said that if Farah continues in the 5,000m and 10,000m, there may be a chance for him to break the world record as he has a long career ahead when it comes to the marathon.

According to Gebrselassie, he ran his first marathon in 2002 in London after which he ran for another three years on the track and then completely turned his focus on the marathon, adding that although Farah is perfect for the marathon age-wise, next year is the perfect year to test the marathon.
