Army Chief General Dalbir Singh on Saturday left for Assam to take stock of the situation following the attacks by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit group) (NDFB) (S) on Tuesday which killed over 70 people.
General Singh had earlier on Friday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to review the security situation in Assam and stated that the operations against Bodo militants would be intensified.
According to reports, in a fresh incident of violence on Friday, NDFB (S) militants lobbed a grenade at SSB personnel and exchanged fire with them in Chirang district along the Indo-Bhutan border.
Earlier this week, NDFB (S) militants had killed over 70 people in the Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam.
