India has defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 40 runs in Group A match of the Under-19 World Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, starting their U-19 World Cup campaign on a positive note.

Set a target of 263 runs for a win, the Pakistani batsmen caved in after a solid start with openers Sami Aslam and Imamul Haq sent back at a crucial juncture of the innings even though their stand for the first wicket was worth 109 runs.

According to the Express Tribune, Indian openers Ankush Bains and Akhel Herwadkar added 65 runs in a mere 8.1 overs while Sanju Samson and Sarfaraz Khan ensured that India posted a challenging score through a fifth wicket alliance worth 119 runs.

The Indian total of 262 was the highest achieved against Pakistan in U-19 World Cups and turned out to be a total beyond the reach Pakistan, the report added.
