Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said today that a large number of workers and nurses who are stuck in Libya want to come back to India.
He said that while the nurses are safe right now, with food and water provisions, gas and electricity continue to remain in short supply.
Chandy said, "All Indians including Keralite nurses are safe. We have listed 118 nurses' names in the list and handed over to the MEA and the Indian embassy. They started their steps to evacuate all the Indians who are willing to come back to India."
"According to information, tomorrow the first batch of people will start from Tripoli to Tunisia. Indian nurses are coming through Tunisia. At present we got the information that about 50 nurses are starting from Tripoli to Tunisia tomorrow. We requested Sushma Swaraj to arrange a special flight and send it to Tunisia to bring back the nurses," he added.
In Tripoli medical centre itself, more than 350 Malayalee nurses are working and a large number of nurses are also working in Benghazi, according to Chandy.
