Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Rajiv Shukla has resigned, following the spot fixing scandal over alleged corruption in the IPL.
Shukla on Saturday said: "I took the decision to quit in view of the recent controversies. I also took into account Sanjay Jagdale and Ajay Shirke's resignation before taking the decision."

His decision to stand down comes less than 24 hours after the resignations of two top BCCI officials, secretary Sanjay Jagdale and treasurer Ajay Shirke, and on the eve of a crucial BCCI working committee meeting in Chennai, where the future of N Srinivasan as board president is expected to be decided.

Shukla took over as IPL chairman at the BCCI's Annual General Meeting in September 2011, from Chirayu Amin. The tenure is for a year, but can be extended at the board's AGM. Shukla, who was reappointed as chairman in 2012, had gone on record saying he would not extend his term at this September's AGM.
Earlier in the day, former Indian cricketer Syed Kirmani said, "It is definitely a circus because here the entertainment on the field is akin to circus. Buffoons and clowns indulge in antics to regale audience similarly our players also do. I feel ashamed of such cricketers."
Meanwhile, the BCCI is slated to hold a meeting tomorrow in Chennai at 2:30.
