Julien Fountain slams 'old school' of critics for refusing to accept Pak's fielding improvement

Former Pakistani fielding coach Julien Fountain has said that the 'old school' of critics in the country are not smart enough to accept that Pakistan's fielding improved over the last two years.

Fountain, who has recently been appointed as head coach of the South Korean national cricket team, revealed that he has former baseball players in his team, which has sparse facilities and small budgets.

According to www.pakpassion.net, Fountain said that he thoroughly enjoyed his time in Pakistan and believes that the team even looked good on the field, although he slammed the 'old school' of critics who he said, simply know how to criticize but not to impartially assess and added that they have failed to accept that Pakistan's fielding has improved.

Fountain further said that such critics do not take into consideration certain facts like if a player is carrying an injury or has he been taught the fielding skill he has just messed up, before making their 'sweeping' statements, adding that some Pakistani players are unable (or unwilling) to dive or slide as often as is required or even at all.

Fountain also said that such actions hinder the team's performance somewhat, as it means these players are executing other skills at inappropriate times, thus increasing the risk of making an error, although he added that it is difficult to correct such errors as some of the players are little old and do not want to put themselves at risk of injury.

Fountain also said that the very people involved either directly or indirectly are simply not willing to go that extra mile to ensure success on the field as they are too busy cozying up to a celebrity to actually enforce a decision.

Fountain also mentioned that unless domestic teams can challenge an international touring team, they would always struggle for consistent performances at senior international level.
