Kapil Sibal slams BJP for disregarding senior leaders and promoting Modi

Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for disregarding its veteran leaders and projecting its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as bigger than the party.

On Friday when the BJP disappointed Jaswant Singh by denying him an election ticket in the Barmer constituency, Sibal attacked Narendra Modi's strategy of power politics which downsizes other leaders of the party.

"The old leader did not even get a ticket; now I am feeling that Narendra Modi has nothing to do with the BJP. The advertisements say, 'This time, it is Modi', where is BJP at all in this? Parliamentary elections are fought on the basis of party," Sibal said.

Similarly, BJP has been facing uproar lately for election ticket distribution, especially over fielding veteran leader, Lal Krishna Advani.

Advani had earlier expressed his desire to contest from Bhopal, a constituency he has represented five times in the Lok Sabha, but now he would be contesting from Gandhinagar after much convincing from the party.

Speaking about the apparent Modi influence all over the country, the law minister took a jibe at Modi regarding his contesting constituency.

"If there so much wave, don't fight from Gujarat, fight from Varanasi," said Sibal.

The BJP has already declared that Modi would be contesting from Varanasi replacing senior party leader, Murli Manohar Joshi, who has been asked to contest from Kanpur.
