Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has said that he feels that his impressive stint in the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) can help him turn into a 'smarter player' for Australia.

Maxwell is the dominant batsman in the Indian Premier League, with 460 runs at 57.5 and a strike rate of 204 for Kings XI Punjab, with Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin being the latest bowler to have been disarmed by Maxwell, conceding 34 runs from nine legal deliveries.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Maxwell said that after the IPL, he believes he will have a pretty firm grasp of what he can or cannot do, adding that he has been stretching the boundaries as much as possible in terms of shot innovation and when he needs to play those shots.

Maxwell further said that he thinks that in the next season, he will be better prepared for different situations and also hopes to be a lot more successful than he is now so that he can nail down the elusive middle-order spot in the one-day side.

Maxwell also revealed his hopes of getting the 'finishing role' for Australia like Michael Husssey and Michael Bevan did when they played, adding that if he can adapt to that role like Bevan and Hussey did, he is sure that Australia will be in good hands.
