'PM aspirant' Modi a symbol of uncontrolled violence: Congress

The Congress Party on Thursday said that it could not visualise Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister of India, as he is a symbol of uncontrolled violence.

Leaders of the Janata Dal United also agreed with this view.

"Narendra Modi will not become the Prime Minister. There is a report which says that Modi has become a symbol of uncontrolled violence," said Congress spokesman Meem Afzal.

JD-U leader K.C. Tyagi said: "I am against Narendra Modi becoming the prime minister. I am not against a poor person becoming the prime minister. I am not against Modi's profession, I am against his ideology. If Modi becomes prime minister, it will be bad for our country."

The BJP was quick to defend Modi.

Vice-president and party spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: "The secular syndicate of Congress is extremely unhappy with the popularity of Narendra Modi. They think only about Modi. The continuous attacks on Modi and the kind of language used will ensure that the secular syndicate will be wiped out."

On Wednesday, Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal had said that a person who used to sell tea cannot have a national perspective.

"Narendra Modi wants to become a PM. Someone rising from a tea shop can never have a national perspective. Like, if you make a 'sipahi' (constable) as 'kaptan' (Superintendent of Police) he can never have an SP's approach, but will have that of a constable," Agarwal said controversially.
