President Mukherjee to host two-day conference of NIT Directors

President Pranab Mukherjee will host a two day Conference of Directors of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) at Rashtrapati Bhavan beginning from November 7.

The President of India is visitor to every Institute under the NITSER Act 2007. This is for the first time that a Conference of Directors of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) is being convened by the President. 30 Directors of NITs will participate in the Conference. There are approximately 72,000 students pursuing various courses in 30 NITs.

President Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Minister of Human Resource Development will address the Conference on the first day.

There will also be presentations by Chairman of National Innovation Council, by Professor S.V. Raghavan, Chairman of Technical Advisory Committee, by National Knowledge Network, by Secretary, MHRD, by Chairman of NIT Review Committee, by National Skill Development Agency and by National Innovation Foundation.

The agenda of the Conference includes steps required to improve the quality of technical education and faculty development in NITs to bring it at par with the top technical institutions of the world, steps needed to create inter-linkages of NITs with the industry, steps required to use National Knowledge Network effectively in the NITs, and suggestions to improve the Visitor-NIT interface within the existing statutory framework of each NIT.
