AB de Villiers's men have climbed up one spot to the third position in the official ICC ODI ranking following their 2-1 three-match series win against New Zealand in Durban.
South Africa avoided a whitewash against the tourists as they claimed a 62-run win in the third and final ODI.
With the win, South Africa are now with 110 points. Australia continued to sit atop the rankings with 129 rating points and India at the second spot with 115 points, Sport 24 reported.
New Zealand slipped back to 109 from 110 points after their defeat.
South Africa are at the number one rank in Tests and number six rank in Twenty20.
