South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell will reportedly be absent from training next week after having a heart scare while playing for South Africa A against India A over the weekend.

According to Sport24, Parnell is awaiting results from tests done on his heart after complaining of shortness of breath while bowling even as he left the field while playing against India A.

The report further said that after the scare, Parnell spent two nights in hospital and had a number of examinations done, including being attached to a 24-hour heart monitor, with the doctors saying that they needed atleast a week to finish a diagnosis.

Stating that Parnell was found to have an irregular heartbeat after complaining of discomfort in his chest, South African team manager Mohammed Moosajee, who is also a doctor, said that although Parnell has settled down for the moment, it is yet to be discovered what is wrong with him.

According to Moosajee, Parnell may be suffering from either pericarditis or myocarditis, both of which are inflammations of the heart, adding that if it is pericarditis, it will keep him sidelined for only two to three weeks as it is less serious than myocarditis, which affects the actual heart muscle and takes about six weeks to recover from.

Moosajee also said that both the conditions are the aftereffects results of a viral infection, most commonly flu, although he added that he is confident that Parnell would be fit for the start of South Africa's domestic season in early October.
