Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raghubar Das was on Sunday sworn-in as the tenth Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
He was administered oath of office and secrecy by Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed at the Morhabadi ground.
Elaborate arrangements were made for the function which was attended by a host of leaders although Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah were unable to attend the ceremony due to bad weather conditions.
Das, a five-time MLA from Jamshedpur East since 1995, retained the seat this time as well after he defeated Anand Bihari Dubey of the Congress. He becomes the first non-tribal Chief Minister of the state.
Earlier on Friday, Das along with AJSU president Sudesh Mahto, senior BJP leader Arjun Munda and Trivendra Singh Rawat had met the Governor to stake claim on forming a new government in the state.
In the recently concluded elections in the state the BJP and its ally the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) achieved majority, bagging 42 seats in the 81-member assembly.
