Coining a new acronym 'Sarab', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a swipe at the SP-RLD-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh, saying the alliance will do harm to the people of the state.
"Take 'sa' from Samajwadi Party, 'ra' from Rashtriya Lok Dal and 'b' from Bahujan Samaj Party, it would make Sarab," he said at a public rally in Meerut. "Shouldn't we rescue ourselves from liquor (sharab) for the good health?" he asked.
Drawing a parallel between the Opposition and Pakistan, Prime Minister Modi said the Opposition is a "star" in Pakistan media. "Pakistan cheers our opposition. Does India want heroes from our country or from Pakistan," he asked.
Prime Minister Modi also slammed Opposition leaders for asking for proof of the surgical strike and the air strike carried out recently on terror camps in Pakistan.
"Do we need sabut (proof) or saput (good son)," he asked the crowd while claiming that those asking for proof are challenging the "good sons of the nation."
Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in seven phases, from April 11 to May 19. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
