Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said 'Earth Day' is the perfect occasion to reaffirm India's commitment to keep the planet clean and green, and focus on sustainable development.
"#EarthDay is the perfect occasion to reaffirm our commitment to keep our Planet clean, green and focus on sustainable development," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
"We belong to a culture that believes in the Mantra- Earth is our Mother and we are her children. Caring for the environment is an integral part of our ethos. India can truly show the way to the world in mitigating climate change," he said in a series of tweets.
Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
First celebrated in 1970, the day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.
