Manchester City is reportedly stunned following a shocking lose to second-tier Wigan Athletic, who won 2-1 in the quarter-final match of the FA Cup at a disbelieving Etihad Stadium.
City, newly crowned League Cup champions, were reportedly willing to overturn their 1-0 defeat in last season's final over Wigan, but instead it is the holders who have advanced to a last-four date with leaders Arsenal.
According to News24, Wigan got the lead with Jordi Gomez's 27th -minute penalty shot and James Perch made it 2-0 within seconds of kick-off in the second half, followed with City's Samir Nasri scoring a goal with 22 minutes remaining and took the score to 2-1.
City reportedly failed to score another goal to level the match and lost to Wigan dispite putting heavy pressure on the visitors, the report added.
City fans were cheerful after the team's 3-1 victory over Sunderland in last weekend's League Cup final, but the home fans were reportedly left numb in the 27th minute when Wigan took the lead.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini reportedly put in everything he could to win the match by sending in James Milner David, David Silva and Edin Dzeko, and the later came within a whisker of leveling the match in the 64th minute with a header that hit the post.
However, City lost despite putting in heavy efforts to win the match but Wigan held on by the skin of their teeth and won, the report added.
