As speculated earlier, Mercedes-Benz has now confirmed the introduction of an all-new 'AMG Sport' range of vehicles, to fill the gap between brand's AMG Sports package-fitted range-topping variants and full-blown AMG models. The new performance range will directly target similar offerings from its closest rival brands such as M Performance models from BMW as well as S models from Audi.
The AMG Sport models will be powered by an uprated version of its regular counterpart's powertrain, along with All-wheel drive mechanism as standard, across the range. While the list of other prominent tweaks includes sport-tuned suspension and steering, uprated wheels, brakes and tyres and improved aerodynamics.
Discussing the brand, Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG said, “The new Sport models represent a convincing proposition for our customers: genuine sports car technology becomes accessible, appealing to an even broader-ranging clientele worldwide. For all our dynamic growth, we remain true to our brand claim of ‘Driving Performance”
The first two AMG Sport models will be unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in January, and will be based on the new C-Class sedan and the forthcoming GLE-Class Coupe (BMW X6 rival). With the introduction of its new AMG Sport range, the company is hopes for an acute boost in the brand’s profile and sales potential worldwide. And aspires to double its last year's record 32,000 unit sales within the next three years.
