Nifty May 2016 futures trade at discount to spot price

Turnover on NSE's F&O segment rise

The May 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 7778.15, a discount of 5.25 points compared with Nifty's closing of 7783.40 in the cash market. The June 2016 futures traded at 7788.35, a premium of 4.95 points compared with the spot closing of the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment totaled Rs 3.29 lakh crore, higher than turnover of Rs 2.92 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty fell 86.75 points or 1.10% to settle at 7,783.40.

Lupin, Sun TV Network, Tata Steel, HDFC Bank and State Bank of India were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the F&O segment of NSE. Lupin May 2016 futures traded at 1645.90, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1641.95. Sun TV Network May 2016 futures traded at 371.80, at a premium compared with spot closing of 370.55. Tata Steel May 2016 futures traded at 326.30, at a premium compared with spot closing of 325.50.

HDFC Bank May 2016 futures traded at 1139.10, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1137.30. State Bank of India May 2016 futures traded at 172.70, at a premium compared with spot closing of 172.40.

The May 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 26 May 2016. The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016.
