Nifty March futures trade at discount to spot price

The March 2016 futures on the 50-unit Nifty 50 index traded at 7447.95, a discount of 27.65 points compared with Nifty's closing of 7475.60 in the cash market. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures and options (F&O) segment declined to Rs 2.06 lakh crore from turnover of Rs 2.52 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty rose 106.75 points or 1.45% to settle at 7,475.60, its highest closing level since 5 February 2016.

State Bank of India, Tata Steel, L&T, Reliance Industries and Tata Motors were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the futures & options (F&O) segment of NSE. State Bank of India March 2016 futures traded at 182.10, at a discount compared to the stock's spot closing of 183.60. Tata Steel March 2016 futures traded at 286.45, at a discount compared to the stock's spot closing of 287.95. L&T March 2016 futures traded at 1215, at a premium compared to the stock's spot closing of 1210.20.

Reliance Industries March 2016 futures traded at 1009.50, at a discount compared to the stock's spot closing of 1010. Tata Motors March 2016 futures traded at 336.90, at a discount compared to the stock's spot closing of 337.

The March 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 31 March 2016.
