Turnover on NSE's F&O segment jumps

Nifty June 2016 futures trade at small premium to spot price

The June 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 7949.50, a premium of 14.60 points compared with the Nifty's closing of 7934.90 in the cash market. The Nifty May 2016 futures traded at 7,938.55, near spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment totaled Rs 6.03 lakh crore, which was higher than turnover of Rs 3.69 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.

In the cash market, the Nifty surged 186.05 points or 2.4% to settle at 7,934.90, its highest closing level since 27 April 2016.

Ashok Leyland, Reliance Industries (RIL), HDFC Bank, Cipla, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India (SBI) were the top traded individual stock futures contracts on the F&O segment of NSE. Ashok Leyland May 2016 futures traded at 97.10, near spot closing of 97. RIL May 2016 futures traded at 950, near spot closing of 949.65. HDFC Bank May 2016 futures traded 1175, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1172.90.

Cipla May 2016 futures traded at 472, at a slight discount compared with spot closing of 472.20. ICICI Bank May 2016 futures traded at 234.05, at a discount compared with spot closing of 234.80. SBI May 2016 futures traded at 175.30, near spot closing of 174.75.

The May 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire tomorrow, 26 May 2016. The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016.
