A CBI court here on Monday extended the judicial remand of Noida's former chief engineer Yadav Singh till March 26 in a corruption case.
Yadav Singh was presented in the court of Special Judge G. Sridevi here on MOnday morning.
"It was a routine judicial process to present the accused in the court for the extension of his judicial remand. Till now, we have not applied for bail since the action would be premature at this stage. We are waiting for the right time," defence lawyer Amit Khemka said.
On March 1 also, the CBI court extended the judicial remand of Yadav Singh.
On February 17, Yadav Singh was sent to 14-day judicial custody after he was presented in court at the end of his 13-day Central Bureau of Investigation remand.
Yadav Singh was arrested by the central agency on February 3 for allegedly abusing his official position in awarding contracts and causing wrongful loss to the exchequer.
The CBI registered a case on July 30, 2015, against Yadav Singh, the then chief engineer, and other "unknown" persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act for corrupt practices in laying of underground cables worth Rs.9,202 lakh (approx) and other charges, following the July 16 order of the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR on June 12, 2012, alleging Yadav Singh had entered into criminal conspiracy with "unknown private people/firms" and awarded various contracts to them without following the laid down procedures, and thereby caused undue pecuniary gain to the tune of crores of rupees to private firms and himself.
