Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dedicating his life for poor people, acting tough against terror and taking efforts to bring economic reforms in the country, BJP chief Amit Shah on Sunday said his birthday was best celebrated as "Sewa Day".

"I am happy that lakhs of people from all walks of life, across the length and breadth of India are celebrating this day as 'Sewa Divas.' Several organisations and NGOs, particularly youth driven groups, are undertaking a wide range of social service initiatives," Shah wrote in a blog post.

"Service or 'Sewa' indeed is the best way to celebrate Narendra Bhai's birthday. (He)is someone whose heart beats for the poor, downtrodden, marginalised and the farmers of India," he said, noting that since Modi had seen poverty closely, his sensitivity towards the "aspirations of the poor led to "historic poverty alleviation initiatives that were unheard of in the history of India".

Shah also said that the first thing that Modi did after becoming the Prime Minister was to set up an SIT on black money, Shah said.

"Since then, there has been a historic crackdown against black money and corruption through various measures including demonetisation and Benami law. Honest taxpayers, majority of whom belong to the middle class, finally feel appreciated and valued," he said.

Shah said Modi set the ball rolling for the economic integration of India through initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana and GST.

He added that decisiveness had always been a defining feature of Modi in the fight against corruption and terror.
