Two people were injured, one of them seriously, when an ex-serviceman allegedly fired three rounds in east Delhi, police said on Thursday.
Police said the ex-serviceman, identified as Rajinder, accidentally fired from his gun after heated arguments over a rashly driven car in Preet Vihar area. He works as a guard at a bungalow in Preet Vihar area.
Eyewitnesses contradicted police claim and said the man who opened fire was called by one of the passengers of the rashly driven car that hit several vehicles on Thursday afternoon.
"Shivam, 19, was driving his car rashly in Mandavali area around 12.30 p.m., when it first hit a rickshaw ferrying a woman and a small child. Both fell down and sustained injuries," eyewitness Arun Gupta told IANS.
"The youth didn't stop his car after hitting the rickshaw, but fled. He hit two motorbikes driven by Rahul and Pawan in the same area, after which they chased him and intercepted him near Preet Vihar," Gupta said.
He said a person, whom he didn't recognise, arrived at the spot and resisted the attempt of those gathered there to take the car along with its driver to the police station.
"He fired three rounds from his gun," Gupta said, adding, "one bullet hit Pawan in his right palm and Rahul in his stomach".
Both the injured were rushed to the Metro Hospital in Preet Vihar, where the condition of Rahul was said to be critical.
Police said further investigation is on.
