12 baby deaths in Bankura Hospital

Twelve babies have died of various complications at the state-run Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital here since Wednesday.
Hospital superintendent Panchanan Kundu said while four new-borns died due to low-birth weight after their premature delivery, two each died of meningitis, pneumonia and respiratory distress after post delivery complications, one each died of thalassemia and birth defects.
The deaths were reported between Wednesday night and Saturday night, he said.
The hospital has the infrastructure for treating 200 children, he said.
