A team of state government officials today visited Gatauli village, a day after at least 14 ducks were found dead in a pond creating panic among villagers.
A team of officials, including Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry department D K Sharma, Deputy CMO of Health department Paleram Kataria, and veterinarians inspected the spot and asked the villagers to keep animals away from the ponds till the postmortem report is received.
Duck carcasses have been recovered, Sharma said adding that eleven of them were buried while three have been sent to a laboratory in Jalandhar for postmortem.
The incident had occured on Sunday, creating panic among villagers in the wake of recent death of a goose from Sukhna lake in Chandigarh which was tested positive for bird flu.
Sharma said that not a single death in the district has occured due to bird flu.
Meanwhile, he conducted a meeting with veterinary surgeons where they were instructed about bird blu. He appealed to villagers to report any such case to the authorities.
Recently, after one of the geese was tested positive for avian influenza, after their death at Chandigarh's Sukhna lake, some 110 ducks were culled to prevent possible spread of bird flu in the region in Chandigarh on December 18.
