17 convicted to life sentence

persons were today convicted to life sentence by courts in Bihar's Nalanda and Madhepura districts in separate murder cases.

Additional district and sessions judge Virendera Kumar Singh passed the order sentencing 12 persons to lifer and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of them after finding the accused guilty in a murder case of Krishna Mahato 18 years ago.

According to prosecution, Mahato was beaten to death by the convicted persons following a land dispute in Khapura village under Hilsa police station area in 1994.

Another court in Madhepura district awarded life imprisonment to five accused persons in the murder case of Sonelal Mandal two years ago.

Additional district and sessions judge Yogesh Narain Singh passed the order convicting the accused persons to lifer after finding them guilty in Mandal murder case.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of them according to prosecution. Mandal was beaten to death by convicted persons in Chatanwa village under Puraini police station on Aug 17, 2010 following old enmity.
