Bangla PM Hasina condoles loss of lives in Chennai floods
Press Trust of India Dhaka Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today condoled the loss of lives in Chennai floods, saying as a close friend and neighbour, Bangladesh stands firmly by India at this difficult hour.
"It is with profound shock and grief that I have learnt about the terrible flood that hit southern India and the loss of lives and the devastation caused by it," she said in a message sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"At this time of distress, I, on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, would like to convey to you and the people of the affected areas and the members of the bereaved families our heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences," Hasina was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.
"We pray for the salvation and eternal peace of the departed souls. As a close friend and neighbour, we stand firmly by you at this difficult hour," she said.
The unprecedented rains in Chennai have killed 269 people. Over 10,000 people have been moved to dafer places.
