The 52-year-old "Descendants" star, who attended the Venice Film Festival for the promotion of his new movie "Gravity" with co-star Sandra Bullock, got photographed for steering a water vehicle, reported E! online.
A local lawyer Mario D'Elia sent a letter to police after seeing the picture. In the letter he wrote that the actor would need a nautical licence and permit to drive a water taxi. He also asked the cops to check Clooney's credentials.
"I asked the authorities to go to the Hotel Cipriani to see if Clooney has a nautical license," D'Elia said.
"Other than getting lost in space (in his new movie), turning in Venice by boat is one of the most difficult situations I faced," Clooney said.
