Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI) plans to engage an external consultant to assist them in preparing a turnaround strategy for the closed Mining and Allied Machinery Corporation (MAMC).
"We will float a tender to hire an external consultant to help in preparing a full-fledged strategy to turnaround and build a strategy to utilise the facility," CMPDI Chairman and managing director A K Debnath told PTI.
The strategy will also include the techno-feasibility report that will help the consortium to take a concrete decision.
CMPDI is a subsidiary of Coal India and consultant for open cast and underground mine planning and design in coal, lignite and other minerals.
The mini-ratna company had been entrusted by the Coal India, DVC and BEML consortium formed to revive the closed company.
The consortium was formed to revive the MAMC facility at Durgapur in making mining machines and equipment.
Coal India Chairman Sutirtha Bhattacharya was hopeful that MAMC will reopen. He said a task force had been formed and CMPDI had already been engaged to give us techno-feasibility report.
DVC Chairman Andrew WK Langstieh also said they were still very much part of the consortium and expressed hope to revive the same.
At the time when Coal India was striving hard to ramp up its production to one billion tonnes by 2020 as desired by the government, the largest miner was concentrating on capacity building.
Along with open cast, Coal India was trying to focus on underground mining.
MAMC in past used to make mining equipment for underground mining.
Coal India was MAMC's largest buyer and many underground mines of the still runs machines supplied by the erstwhile PSU.
