Former Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal today said the Centre should first complete projects launched by the UPA government for the Kanpur, before dreaming of making it a Smart City.
Roads are not in good condition, there is electricity problem and bridges are under construction for several years and the government is thinking of making it a Smart City, he said.
"Tomorrow is my birthday, but I won't celebrate until all the projects launched for the city by the previous UPA government is completed," he said.
Talking to media at Congress office here, he said that UPA government during its tenure has decided to construct bridges over eight railway crossings.
"The construction works of these bridges have been left mid-way and neither the Centre nor the state is saying anything about it," he alleged.
Similarly, the UPA government had started flight service from Kanpur to Delhi, but it was stopped after NDA came to power, the Congress leader said.
Talking about the electricity crisis, he said the UPA government had given nod to Neyveli Lignite and NTPC to set up power stations at Ghatampur and Bilhaur respectively, but these projects too have been left half mid-way.
The fate of other UPA projects like construction of ring road and railway lines from Panki seem uncertain, he added.
