DVC threats to regulate power to Jharkhand

The Damodar Valley Corporation today threatened to reduce power supply to the Jharkhand electricity board due to non-payment of dues.
In a press statement, the DVC said that it would reduce supply to the Jharkhand Urja Vikash Nigam Limited after it failed to clear dues amounting to around Rs 7,000 crore and regular monthly bill of Rs 160 crore.
"Under this compelling situation, power generation may fall down drastically, which may lead to widespread power cut in DVC command areas," the statement warned.
It noted that the DVC is not in a position to provide fund for purchasing fuel (coal and oil) and is also unable to pay other statutory dues for generation of power.

DVC operates in West Bengal and Jharkhand. Presently, the total installed capacity of the DVC runs into 5857.2 MW with six coal based and three hydel stations under its wings.
