Attacking Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao over the Rs 10 lakh bonanza for each family in his native village, the Congress in Telangana on Friday said the treasury belonged to all people and the scheme should be extended to other villages also.

During a visit to his native Chintamadaka village in Siddipet district, Rao had on July 22 announced that each of the about 2,000 families there would get Rs 10 lakh assistance and said he had sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the purpose.

The beneficiaries can utilise the fund for setting up poultry farms, purchase tractor or for any other purpose they desired, he had suggested.

Reacting to the announcement, Congress Legislature Party leader M Bhatti Vikrmarka in an open letter to Rao on Friday said since the funds were being released from the state treasury, all other villages should also get the benefit.

"The state treasury belonged to the entire state and not to any particular region or village," he said.

In a sarcastic note, Vikrmarka said all thought that the funds would met from the Chief Minister's personal finances or trusts owned by him.

"But (we) came to know that (you are) making preparations for the release of the funds from the state treasury, he said in the letter.

Congress was neither opposed to the "affection" shown by Rao to his native village people nor against programmes taken up for development of rural areas, he said.

Rao had taken the pledge to discharge his duties without any impartiality and it was his responsibility to extend the Chintamadaka Rs 10 lakh scheme to all families in every village in the state, he added.
