'Koolai' Ibrahim, along with six others, was arrested in 1997 in connection with a murder case and was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2001.
Though he went for appeal in Madras High Court against the verdict, it was upheld, following which he petitioned the Supreme Court.
In the appeal, Abdul Razak, father of Ibrahim, produced a school transfer certificate claiming that his son was a minor when the crime was committed and sought relief from the sentence.
Razak was arrested on charges of cheating and forgery.
Judicial Magistrate C Vediyappan awarded three years imprisonment to Razak, besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000.
