Charging the Centre with "inordinate" delay in placing the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2014 for discussion in Parliament, a federation of blind and disabled people today said it will hold protest march here on December three, coinciding with World Disability Day.
The bill introduced during previous UPA Government was sent to Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment's Parliamentary standing committee owing to certain concerns raised by several disability rights organisations.
The organisations representing disabled persons, however, have complained that the delay on part of Centre is "inexplicable" given the committee has already submitted its recommendations.
"Calling for speeding up of this process and introduction of the amended Bill in this session of Parliament, several national and state-level disability rights organisations have come together and called for a demonstration," SK Rungta and Muralidharan, representing National Federation of Blind and National Platform for Rights of Disabled respectively, said in a joint statement.
The march will begin from Atul Grove Road, off Tolstoy Marg at 11 am and convert into a public meeting at Parliament Street.
