HC tells govt-formed high power panel to tackle traffic woes

Adjourning the matter to November 1, Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Nitin Jamdar also asked Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to place the representations made by people before the High Power Committee.

The Court further directed the High Power Committee to study the problems stated in the representations as expeditiously as possible and preferably before November 1.

The High Power Committee had been appointed in some other PIL and is existing even now.

The PIL, filed by Rachna Chavan, an advocate practicing in the High Court, contended that three main busy roads in Borivali, namely Chandravarkar Lane, LT/Gorai Road and Linking Road, meet at an intersection.

Each of these roads are open to traffic in two directions and meet at a spot where they get divided into ten different paths. This causes a lot of traffic congestion and many accidents take place, the PIL submitted.

The PIL alleged that signals are not functioning properly and there is a big school in the locality which caters to a large number of students. Crossing roads on these busy routes have become hazardous and risky for pedestrians as well as motorists, the petition contended.

The petition urged the Court to direct the authorities to take action for solving the traffic problem in the area.
