Kerala police today decided to
strengthen security in and around Kaloor international stadium during next Sunday's Indian Super League (ISL) semifinal match between Kerala Blasters and Delhi Dynamos.
The decision to tighten security was taken in view of the alleged hooliganism by some sections of the football-crazy crowd during last Sunday's match between Kerala Blasters and Northeast United FC.
The incident has reportedly marred Kochi's chance for hosting "Marquee matches" in next year's FIFA U-17 world cup.
Kochi City Police said in a statement that strong steps would be taken to prevent such untoward incidents during the semifinal match. Police have taken a series of measures including deployment of more forces and increased number of CCTV cameras in and around the stadium to ensure proper security for the match.

The incident of unruly behaviour occurred after a fan was allegedly manhandled by the security forces. The crowd responded by allegedly hurling objects onto the pitch including plastic chairs.

Kochi city police said such incidents would affect Kochi's chance to host international matches and next year's U-17 FIFA events.So tough measures would be in place to ensure smooth conductof the semifinal match on Sunday, they said.
Police also said it was monitoring CCTV footage to identify those who created trouble during last Sunday's ISL match.
According to reports, Javier Ceppi, the tournament director of the U17 World Cup, has taken a grim view of last Sunday's incident.

Kochi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was the first stadium in India to get ratified by a high-level FIFA delegation in October to host U-17 world cup matches next year.
