The 17-year-old Prashant Kumar Jha was produced by the police in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashok Kumar Gupta amidst tight security and was sent to a remand home.
The girl Preeti Chaudhary was medically examined and found to be a minor.
The CJM after recording her statement allowed her to go home with her father Jagpati Chaudhary and mother.
In obedience to the court's order, the district police escorted her home with her parents, the girl's advocate Sanjay Kumar said.
The Madhubani police brought the boy and girl, who had eloped in September, to the town late last night by road after taking them off a train at Muzaffarpur.
Though the court premises were virtually converted into a fortress, the police had a tough time managing the crowd gathered outside.
The boy's family, including parents and grandparents, were not present.
According to the police, grandfather Chandeshwar Jha, grandmother Jhema Devi, father Rajiv Kumar and mother Vinita were traceless. MORE
